Feathers abound!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...at least, at our house!  I love Christmas.   It is one of my favorite days of the year.  The anticipation and excitement in the air are almost overwhelming.

My favorite childhood memories include decorating the house, Christmas Eve church and  stopping at my Grandmother's on the way home (her house always smelled so good, even in the wee hours of the night).

Decorations were and still are the traditional Christmas colors of red, green and white in our home.

Our Wall Sugar Design Team project for December was to alter the Large Wreath Base. Although I wanted to stay with traditional colors, I also wanted to create something "non-traditional".   My thoughts were churning as I put together my idea of something fluffy and white with red accents.  When the project was finished, I was really pleased with the results.
My white, fluffy and feathery wreath will look perfect on the front door of my niece's new home!

 Supplies
Gesso
Feather boa
Mesh tubing
Ornaments
Bird
Hot glue gun/glue sticks
White floral wire

I started by giving my wooden wreath a base coat of Gesso to seal the wood.  Not sure why I did this other than it is habit.

Next, I hot glued the boa on the top side of the wreath base.  It was long enough to go around the base twice.  I had originally planned to use individual feathers, but that seemed too tedious. The boa was an after thought and worked very well and required little effort.

Here's the wreath base completely covered with the boa.

I wanted the wreath to have the majority of embellishing to the left, and started with the long floral pick.   It is both hot glued and wired in place with white floral wire.

The finished bow was created by stacking a small bow on top of a larger bow.  Both made from the mesh tubing and wired together.  I added red and white ornaments to the center.

The bird was attached at the base of the floral pick just above the bow.

A few more red ornaments for embellishing and my wreath is finished!  This is a quick and easy project for any crafter.

Love your wreath Vicki, can't imagine how messy it must have been to attach all the feathers!
