Weekend of Celebration!

This past weekend was a whirlwind of celebration for our family!

We have an upcoming wedding in October that got off to a happy start on Saturday with a bridal shower for the bride and groom.  Lots of wonderful gifts for the happy couple.

Part of my contribution was an altered box for the cards they receive at the wedding in October.  The reception theme is "Old Hollywood", so I needed to come up with something to go along with it.

The Great Gatsby came to mind, and I decided on something with feathers and bling.  I found an antique ivory birdcage at the local Hobby Lobby and fell in love.  It was perfect!  A chipboard mask, jewels, and gorgeous vintage trim all helped to complete the look I wanted.

So, here it is in detail...

I used Splash of Color's Inka Gold Metallic Rub in silver to add some antiquing to the cage.

After adding black sequined trim around the top, I layered this exquisite Vintage Ivory Lace from Tresors de Luxe.  It's a fabulous Etsy Shop that carries amazing laces, trims, and embellishments.

I had fun altering this chipboard mask that I found at Michael's.  The entire mask is covered with Splash of Color's Inka Gold Metallic Rub in silver.  I love this stuff!  It goes on easily and dries quickly.  Next, I added bling...jewels, feathers, and tulle for a vintage, romantic touch.

I found this clip at Hobby Lobby to use as the final piece of bling!

The bottom of the cage is lined with black crushed velvet fabric and two white doves keep house!

And, here's the finished cage!  I love the end result and so did my niece.  The top opens up and will be perfect to hold the wedding cards for the bride and groom.

Thanks for stopping by to see my vintage bird cage project!
I hope you are inspired to alter something vintage too.
