"When Skies Are Gray"

Good morning blogger buddies!

Phew, we're through another month of winter and hopefully on the downside of the cold, dreary weather!!  I am soooo ready for Spring.  Until then though, we are sticking with a winter theme on the Double D Challenge Blog..."When Skies Are Gray".

I can't help but think of The Mamas and The Papas old 60's tune, California Dreamin'.

"All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray.
I've been for a walk on a winter's day."

Team Diane is sharing their inspiration and hosting for the next two weeks along with help from Team Darlene.  The mood board offers a variety of interesting shapes, textures and designs for this challenge.

I was inspired by everything on this mood board. The honeycombs, cups, patterns and scarf fringe all called to me...even the wee bit of background green.

"Sweet to the Soul"

I'm back to my mini canvas, 6" x 6" card base for this project.  I wanted plenty of room for the honeycomb background I created using two different die cuts.  There's lots of hexagon shapes, both negative and positive, on this card front!

The tea cup and background hexagon pattern was made using a stencil and ink.  I pulled the light brown around the honeycomb in the first photo and paper roll in the third photo by adding some kraft color paper to the gray shades.  The green ribbon used for the bow has the same pattern as the stencil used for the tea cups.  I added loops of gray yarn under the bow and topped it with mesh flowers.  A couple of green leaves and a few bees complete the details.  The Bible verse was the perfect sentiment and pulled it all together.

From my stash...
Memory Box Honeycomb Corner
Memory Box Stacking Cups
Paper Trey Ink Hexagon Die Plate
Spellbinders Hexagon Die

I must ask you about the sentiment. Is it a stamp or computer generated? I love it, but the card is the beautiful frame for it. So many elements from the mood board expressed here.

Oh WOW, I love everything about this card. I'm such a fan of the hex shape, and you have used it perfectly here. Not only in the background, but using the shapes as embellishments. I love the little bees, the teacups and flower are perfect here too. Just a wonderfully designed card!
