Good morning, blogger friends!
A new month and new challenge at the Double D Challenge Blog...
It's May Day and only a few days away from one of the biggest events in horse racing, the Kentucky Derby. It's the first leg in a race for the Triple Crown of horse racing with the Preakness and Belmont Stakes to follow in weeks to come. I was fortunate to see Affirmed win the Preakness in 1978 and go on to be a Triple Crown winner.
Large, extravagant hats are a tradition at the Kentucky Derby, also known as "The Run For The Roses". Hence, the title of my blog post which brings us to our challenge theme...
"Kentucky Derby Hat Inspiration".
We have some sweet mood board inspiration.

How cute is this Woodware Hat Collection stamp set?
I was inspired by the hat topic along with the Kentucky Derby nicknamed "The Run For The Roses"!
"Run For The Roses"
Remnants in my stash from Graphic 45's "Off To The Races" collection were perfect for this challenge theme. The 6 inch square card consists of many layers and fussy cut images of women wearing hats along with names of the triple crown races. I inked and distressed some of the edges and embellished with a few mulberry roses. I gave dimension to the fussy cut lady image and added a little "frou frou to the back of her dress with black tulle. A fussy cut horseshoe for good luck hangs over the corner of "The Run for the Roses" tag.
